A shared record no single operator controls
A distributed ledger kept by a globally distributed network of servers. A ledger is an append-only record: entries are added, never edited in place. This one is not kept by a company's database but by many independent servers, spread across regions and operators, each holding a full copy. When DataVizor says something is recorded in the Matter Ecosystem, it means every one of those servers holds the same entry.
Byzantine-fault-tolerant consensus: the servers agree before anything is written. Before an entry is written, the servers run a byzantine-fault-tolerant consensus protocol — a way of agreeing on the next entry that keeps working even if some of the servers are faulty, offline, or actively dishonest. An entry that the honest majority did not agree to simply never becomes part of the record.
No single operator can rewrite, reorder, or censor the record. Because no single server decides, no single operator can change history, put entries in a different order, or quietly drop one. That is the property the rest of DataVizor leans on: when a page tells you who belongs to your organization or which app is running, it is quoting a record that nobody could have edited on their own.
